National Week of Community Meetings in Solidarity With Venezuela and Against US Intervention!

The Venezuela Solidarity Network is asking grassroots organizations around the country to support Venezula’s democracy by holding community meetings during the third week of October, 2006.  The purpose of these meetings will be to bring communities together to formulate local Emergency Response Action Plans in the event of a critical intervention by the US against Venezuela .  Each community will be asked to come up with a local plan of action, and to choose a representative to help consolidate these plans into a National Emergency Response Plan.

The timing for these meetings is urgent!

Elections in Venezuela are scheduled for December 3. There is wide popular support for the Presidency of Hugo Chavez and the policies and achievements of the Bolivarian Revolution. Yet, the Bush Administration has tried over and over to isolate Chavez from the international community—the same Bush Administration that helped plan national work stoppages to cripple Venezuela’s economy; that supported a coup attempt against Chavez; that is actively stepping up its inflammatory rhetoric against Venezuelan democracy.

Venezuela is a beacon of hope in today’s world against imperialism. We must be prepared to resist US intervention there, and to defend this light of hope in these desperate times.

If your organization would like to take part in these meetings, please contact us at: VSN@afgj.org. Let us know when and where your community meeting will be held, along with your contact information, and we'll post it on the VSN web page.
