Join the Venezuela Solidarity Emergency Response Network to Fight Back!

With the December 3rd Presidential elections in Venezuela fast approaching, the campaign of lies and distortions emanating from the Bush Administration and the corporate media is intensifying. Experience shows that the enemies of the Bolivarian Revolution will go to any length to stop the Venezuelan people from exercising their sovereign right to decide what kind of government and society they want. The tragic experience of Chile in 1973 is a warning, as the pattern of lies and provocations against Venezuela is chillingly familiar.

Venezuela's rejection of US military and economic hegemony and its efforts to promote Latin American integration have put it in the cross-hairs of U.S. foreign policy. It is up to US citizens and residents of good will – those who remember the tragedies of U.S. sponsored "regime" change in Guatemala, Chile, Jamaica, Grenada, Panama, Nicaragua, and Haiti – know that it is our responsibility to speak out against the U.S. government's campaign of disinformation and destabilization of the elected government of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

On the weekend of March 4-6, 2006, over 400 people gathered at the Venezuela Solidarity Conference in Washington, DC to form the Venezuela Solidarity Network (VSN). One of the decisions taken by acclamation of the delegates present was the formation of a Venezuela Emergency Response Network (ERN).

In addition to individual memberships through the website of the Venezuela Solidarity Network we are calling on all communities to develop plans for local actions in event of major U.S. interference or intervention in Venezuela's sovereign affairs. For more information about developing a local plan and designating a local contact to be part of the National Venezuela Emergency Response Council, send an email to VSN@afgj.org. We invite all local and national organizations and individuals who defend Venezuela to join us in building a broad and far-reaching national network, able to respond rapidly and efficiently to provocations both large and small.
